STEM CELL RESEARCH

We oppose embryonic stem cell research bills:

Sponsors:  Sen. Spano;  Sen. Paterson;  Sen. Krueger;  Speaker Silver

Bill #  S.5714A   S.5932  S.433B   A.6300A

We support adult stem cell research bills such as these, which involve no destruction of human life:

Sponsors:  Sen.DeFrancisco;  A. Lentol;  A. Eddington

Bill #    S.5999A     A.457A     A.3346A

Embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) has resulted so far in no therapies or cures and is unethical as it destroys human embryos.  Reports of stunning results leading to real cures and therapies are coming regularly from the field of adult stem cell research.  Adult stem cell research is helping many and harms no one.  See www.stemcellresearch.org to find out more about adult stem cell therapies helping people now.

Breakthroughs in adult stem cell research are further discrediting the pro-human-experimentation-and-destruction agenda.  Umbilical cord blood is a rich source of stem cells.  Stem cells can be extracted from umbilical cord blood after a birth, and no one is harmed during the process.  The New York State Right to Life Committee supports S.5999A/A.457A and A.3346, both of which would promote the collection and storage of umbilical cord blood for use in ethical stem cell research and medicine.  S.5999A passed the Senate on March 1, 2006, and awaits action in the Assembly Health Committee.  A.3346A passed the Assembly on February 13, 2006, and awaits action in the Senate Health Committee.  Adult stem cell research is ethical, and successful, and is therefore something every New Yorker can support.
